Prison Education

Free vocational Training to inmates and ex inmates.

What We Do

Our work in prisons and with ex inmates is not just about helping individuals, it’s about making our communities safer and stronger. By providing education, jobs, training providing education, jobs, training, counselling and other services, we are helping we are helping to reduce recidivism rates and giving people the tools they need to lead positive and productive lives.

Health Care

Our studies have proven that to avoid Recidivism, our inmates deserve good health care. A vast majority of our inmates are either from the streets, broken homes, have no parent or family members to care for them. In this way, they lack finances to take care of their bills.

Moral and Spiritual Assistance

Inmates are mostly persons with poor moral values. These values are either lost or were never received. This automatically keeps them at the edge of the society. VOPS seeks to guide and direct these individuals on the path of goodness.

75%

Vocational Training

About 70% of crimes are due to unemployment or lack of means for start-ups. Less privileged cannot afford education or training. VOPS takes the initiative to create skill acquisition workshops. Where possible, we offer jobs or help begin trade

Prison Challenges

Sanitation

VOPS solicits aid from hygiene companies such as SECCA, HYSACAM, FLORE SERVICE etc. for the disinfection of the prison. This helps to reduce the rate of infections and ill health.

Housing

The high rate of overcrowding has made it disheartening as the cells have gotten so small that inmates stay in the open space even in the rains. As a means to reduce overcrowding

Nutrition

To address the limitation and challenges of proper feeding in the prison, VOPS has a kitchen in the prison. An average of 200 plates of food is shared each day to all the sick

Stigmatization

The reinsertion of detainees and ex-detainees remains a major concern in Cameroon. The ex-detainees most often encounter social rejection

Alfred

Ex Convict

I am at loss of words to express my gratitude to VOPS. First and foremost, I was sentenced to 8 years in prison, but VOPS assisted me to file and for an Appeal and my sentence was reduced to 2 years. While I was incarcerated, VOPS was a constant source of support, providing for my new needs in every way. I received training in tailoring and, with their help, I am now perfecting my skills as a designer. VOPS supported us not only with essentials like food, but also spiritually, morally, and through skills training. May God bless VOPS abundantly. .
